Nella history of video games,
the idea of revolution has almost always
started from an innovative idea, the creative spark capable of giving
the status quo of the moment a jolt and that can set new standards of
judgment for games to come. Sometimes, precisely in order to rebuild a
genre and infuse its distinctive elements with a new guise, but one that still
has the ability to amaze as it once did, it is necessary to dismantle its
foundations and rethink everything from scratch. Let’s take an army of monsters,
scattered throughout the game world so that the user, in the role of a hunter-gatherer, will have the opportunity to
travel, encounter them, and face them, all in real time. Let’s also take
the possibility of playing the campaign by joining other players with whom
to explore regions and continents: no, I’m not talking about the Pokemon, Nintendo’s cute little monsters that have in fact
forever changed the concept of RPG,
but rather the cyclopean beasts of Monster
Hunter, the fantasy action saga branded Capcom
that in Japan is a true and proper institution.
Franchise born almost twenty years ago
for Sony’s flagship console, at least
as far as sales are concerned, namely the PlayStation
2, Monster Hunter boasts dozens of incarnations that have expanded its
world: 2025 will be a crucial year, because the bad boys at Capcom have
announced the arrival in grand style of the eighteenth iteration, with a title
more evocative than ever, Monster Hunter
Wilds, where the wild nature of the Forbidden Lands, rendered graphically in
excellent fashion thanks to Playstation 5,
Xbox Series and of course PC, will put the Hunters’ skills to the test.
La release date is scheduled for 28
February 2025, at the dawn of a spring of gaming that promises to be
spectacular: in the role of Nata, a brave boy who witnessed the devastation of
his village, we will join an expedition in search of the White Specter, the
likely culprit. From this moment on, the player will be able to freely explore
a rich series of inspired biomes, that is, geographical areas whose
interaction between fauna, flora, and atmospheric conditions, as well as the
animal population that lives there, is determined and classified according to
specific peculiarities. In simple terms, each game area will constitute a
true world unto itself, with its own rules, its unique parameters that players
will have to learn to know in order to survive and progress in the game.
Being in fact the follow-up to the masterpiece released in 2018, that World which even today draws crowds of fans who pack the servers in search of yet another Rathalos to take down, Monster Hunter
Wilds has generated gigantic hype among fans and beyond. We are
talking about the first title in the series on next-generation consoles, and
the rumors about it are swirling like crazy pinball balls: will it be the new benchmark for action RPGs that will see the
light in the coming years? Will new modes finally be introduced in Wilds:
above all, I’m intrigued by the Focus Mode,
translated as precision mode,
a mechanic that will allow us to perform targeted attacks, capable of inflicting
heavy damage on our beloved monsters, and defend ourselves with parrying by aiming
in the direction of the viewpoint we have adopted.
Quest’ultimo elemento, in qualche way, reminded me of Elden Ring and the
possibility of literally crippling creatures larger than us so that
they can be brought down more easily. The legacy it carries on its shoulders is in
fact very heavy: World managed to combine a smooth yet at the same time complex gameplay structure,
guaranteeing the player a range of varied in-game possibilities and actions,
giving variety one of the game’s beating hearts, namely forming the party
with other users and charging headlong into vast and hostile territories, without forgetting the iconic damp forests populated by monsters hungry
for human flesh, hidden behind anything that can allow them to set
ambushes. Wilds will have to do the same, and if possible even better.
A true hell on Earth, but
isn’t that what we Hunters desire?
