Let’s admit it: what could be more
beautiful and liberating than a flight over the city, lulled by the familiar hum of the
engines and the gentle glide among hills, snow-covered mountains, and the view of the unmistakable
skyline belonging to the most beautiful capitals of the world?
Con Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, the next chapter of the legendary
and decades-spanning franchise developed by the company founded by Bill Gates and that
will have its crowning on XSX console, flight simulator enthusiasts will have plenty to enjoy,
thanks to the announced new features that, once implemented, will raise the already very high standard of the series.
Toward new heights, it’s truly the case to say so, but let’s proceed in order.
Chronologically speaking, the first
version of the Microsoft simulator saw the light in 1982: we could define it as a very simple test bed of what
would later arrive in grand style, with the help of more
refined technologies and the contribution of experts and professionals in the sector (thanks to
whom the accuracy inherent in airports, cities, places and landscapes is nowadays guaranteed almost down to the millimeter).
Forty years later, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will add new cities and flight functions to its already endless database, keeping pace with the development of aeronautical technologies: inside the cockpit, immersive like few other game cockpits, even recent ones we have played, we will be able to, the instrument panel proves functional and complete, with a level of photorealism that I would dare to call almost thrilling.
The level of detail is exceptional and if
we think that practically all the airports on the globe have been,
once again, reproduced with painstaking fidelity, we can realize
the immense amount of work that is being carried out around the flagship project and
reference standard for every type of flight simulator. What
enthusiasts expect, and what the trailer seems to want to promise us with
constant winks, is the feeling of being able to handle every technical aspect, but not only that, as
a professional pilot, all while sitting comfortably in the armchair at
home.
Citing Modugno once again
with his “blue painted blue,” don’t think you can get off so easily
when you are at the controls of your Cessna or an airliner carrying
tourists eager for a vacation in Hawaii: the atmospheric conditions we will face as pilots will be the most
varied and will obviously take into account the flight routes we will travel,
testing us in a… dizzying way.
To say nothing of the career modes planned, from
the profession of glider pilots to that of airship pilots, the possibilities will be
truly numerous and varied. Even the chance to fly helicopters, perhaps the one
that is most exciting for an enthusiast like the one writing to you right now.
Al timone, or if you prefer at the controls, are the guys at Asobo
Studios, visionary artists who have already given us video game gems
such as Quantum Break and the magnificent
duology A Plague Tale. These two hugely award-winning titles would be
enough to guarantee the success of the project,
being synonymous with quality and excellent flashes of game design; however, I
want to emphasize that this title will not be a simple evolution of the
previous Flight Simulator games, nor an elaborate DLC.
Il 19 November 2024, when Microsoft will open the hangar doors and the control tower will give the okay in the fly zones, we will find ourselves in the presence of a revolutionary and revolutionized game, a new and weighty milestone of the genre from which everything will begin again.
And we will be happy to stay up there.
