Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2

by Simon LaroccaMarch 17, 2024

Il termine cross-media, now in vogue for decades throughout pop culture and subculture, imposes very precise rules regarding the setting of the franchise and its evolution depending on the medium, precisely, through which we users will experience it.
Se colonne portanti del panorama ludico like Dungeons and Dragons, just to cite a name at random, have been able to define and redefine the Role-Playing Game in every aspect, moving almost surely from the triad paper-dice-pencil to the on-screen wonders of icons like Baldur’s Gate, then it is by speaking of Warhammer that we can safely state how perfect the transition has been from the fake prairies on the table and the miniatures to the video game universe.
Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2, also coming out on PlayStation 5 on September 9, 2024, barring any further delays from the production company, will be the new title in a series acclaimed and followed by players all over the world!
In the beginning, Warhammer centered around the gaming table, with rich science-fiction settings and increasingly urban ones, crowds of strategy enthusiasts, with its very rigid rulebook but capable of providing players with everything they needed to blast, a term very much in vogue in the user community, enemy armies. When the saga was introduced into the world of video games, with its boundless lore and its complex gameplay mechanics, some people turned up their noses.
I, first of all, have to admit it.
But it did not last long. The care with which the Warhammer universe was brought to the screens of our living rooms, or bedroom if you still belong to that generation, was so maniacal that it convinced me to give it a chance. And here I am now, with my arsenal of weapons ready for use, telling you about the next title. The game will see us in the shoes of a marine whose brute strength and relentlessness will certainly not be lacking, as he makes his way through rivers of bullets, lasers, and fierce enemies exactly like him.
The view will be in third person according to what has been announced, and the screenshots shown so far also leave little doubt about any perspective changes for the player.
The marine in question, if it still wasn’t clear, is indeed him: Titus, a soldier ready for battle who comes directly from the previous game, in better shape than ever judging by the highly spectacular trailers: the graphics department appears to be a cut above many video games in its category, although it will be only the finished product that will seal on our gamepads and inside our hearts the title of announced masterpiece, as many industry insiders are already whispering through the streets soaked by the acid rain of the megacities assaulted by the cruel Tyranids.
The good premises are all there, in fact: fast-paced gameplay that won’t leave much time to catch our breath, while we’ll be bombarded from all sides and will have to make it out alive, knowing that what will make the difference will be planning and skill pushed to the highest levels.

From my point of view, the cooperative mode will be decisive, and I’m not talking about the responsive integration of an advanced artificial intelligence that can accompany us during our missions: playing side by side with other human users is and remains the universal key to fun.
If Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 manages to showcase it properly, then we will be looking at a title that will set the standard and mark the boundary between what came before and what will come after.

My name is Simon Larocca, and I am a gamer, collector, and lover of pop culture in all its forms. I go to the cinema whenever I can, I have been reading since I started wearing glasses, so, basically forever, and I have a passion for storytelling in all its forms, so powerful that it became my profession. But as Doc from Ritorno al Futuro would say, there would be no present if one did not look at the past with respect and admiration, and it is the Simon child of more than thirty years ago, give or take a year, who is to thank for that.
