Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the endless duel between Cloud and Sephiroth returns on Switch 2!

Esistono videogiochi, videogiochi belli e videogiochi molto ma molto belli. Poi vi sono quelli che non hanno bisogno di presentazioni, ammantati da un’aura di leggenda accecante quanto la Materia prodotta dalla Shinra, il cui nome tradotto in italiano, “fantasia finale”, è sinonimo di bellezza, emozioni ed epicità allo stato più alto dell’arte. Perché di arte si deve parlare, in questo caso.
Final Fantasy VII has represented for almost thirty years, for countless role-playing game fans and beyond, the highest peak that the video game landscape has managed to reach in its history: splendidly characterized characters, a complex and profound story that touches the strings of the human soul, and the opposition (and inseparable bond) between the two main characters, Cloud and Sephiroth, which goes far beyond a mere physical duel with swords and devastating techno-magical skills.
Del suo remake, uscito nel 2020 e facente parte di una corposa trilogia che riscriverà, a quanto sembra, alcune delle rotte narrative più efficaci e potenti mai create in un RPG, si è già detto molto, ma non abbastanza invece di Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade: tecnicamente si presentò come la versione per PS5 del gioco principale (uscito l’anno prima solo sulla Ps4), tuttavia l’introduzione di un DLC dedicato alla simpatica e letale ninja del party, quella Yuffie che si faticavano sette camicie per riuscire a sbloccare nel titolo iconico del 1997, rende Intergrade un prodotto molto più interessante di quello che potrebbe apparire.
E indeed its story is not over yet, as Tetsuya Nomura would say, curator of the new trilogy and already an award-winning author for the various Xenoblade Chronichles, the wonderful Parasite Eve and, of course, the Square Disney-esque saga of Kingdom Hearts: on January 22, 2026, just around the corner, Switch 2 will bring back Intergrade with all its follow-up extras, special content and yes, also INTERmission with Yuffie Kisaragi.
Per those who still don’t know Final Fantasy VII and deserve a permanent place on the chickpeas in the dining hall in front of a looping screening of The Battleship Potemkin, we’re talking about a broad-scope adventure in which Cloud Strife, a blond mercenary in the service of the eco-terrorist organization Avalanche dedicated to the defense of Midgar, takes on the evil megacorporation Shinra together with Tifa, Barrett, and a series of unforgettable characters, for character design, background, and development throughout the story, so engaging that you’ll find yourselves rooting for them in the showdown against the villain par excellence, Sephiroth, the perfect SOLDIER, unbeatable, the one-winged angel.
Rivisitando i combattimenti con una sapiente miscela tra strategia e azione in tempo reale, Intergrade riporta gli amanti del gioco originale nei territori di Midgard, con l’upgrade grafico ovviamente che si poteva solo sognare alla fine degli Anni Novanta, ritrovando vecchie e nuove conoscenze per una storyline che accontenterà la vecchia guardia ma, e lo scoprirete solo giocando, gettando qua e là i semi per qualcosa di assolutamente nuovo e imprevedibile.
Altering the purely technical considerations regarding the porting from consoles such as PS5 and XSeries, which naturally run on much higher standards than Nintendo’s new arrival, we must consider the excellent work that has been done, as shown by the gameplay videos with Cloud’s acrobatics and his iconic giant sword: among the special contents included we will have many in-game obtainable items, such as the Midgar bracelet or the materia to summon the mythical Cactuar, but what will make the difference, I am sure, will once again be the chance to step back into the shoes of the rebel heroes of Avalanche, led by Cloud and Tifa, who, between a drink at the Seventh Heaven and a romantic ride on the Ferris wheel, will move us just like the first time… And so will Aerith.
