Super Game Boy, the Peripheral of Dreams

Adattatori.
A magic word, for everyone for those who could not afford the vast console lineup churned out over the years by the major production houses in video game entertainment, or who simply preferred to reach for their wallets more carefully. Whatever category you belong to, the Super Game Boy is one of those items that made the fortune of collectors and husbands with their breath on their neck.
Let's find out why.
The Super Nintendo, or SNES to its friends, was the console that marked the level-up from its 8-bit parent, the NES, to the more colorful 16-bit era, as everyone knows: the new generation, however, has never shied away from going back to the past, especially when it comes to the Kyoto company, which has always known how to stay one step ahead of everyone else in terms of restyling, reboots, and nostalgia-driven operations.
So, in 1994, while Roberto Baggio was throwing an entire football nation into despair by launching a satellite into space from Pasadena, Nintendo released the Super Game Boy, a cartridge that made it possible to play the games of its portable console on the futuristic, for the time, SNES!

It was a revolution, perhaps one that went a little unnoticed here in the nineties, but which, like everything else, was able to come back into the spotlight in the following decades, among collectors’ tables at fairs first and then on the internet in online marketplaces later. Running Game Boy games (PAL, JP and NTSC) on a larger screen, and above all in color, made it possible to venture into a new world, developing the intrinsic potential of the handheld console toward new horizons, so much so that titles were also released specifically to be enjoyed with the adapter. In effect, what was supposed to be “merely” the purely physical link between two consoles became access to the television version of the Game Boy.
And sorry if that’s not much, I would add.
If we then count, and here the collector in me comes into play, and in you, that the games developed to be enjoyed with the Super Game Boy have had no other incarnations, you will fully understand the value that envelops them in an aura of pure uniqueness.
When I get to work on this adapter, I’m always amazed by how truly peculiar, no other term comes to mind, the experience of playing the classics with the Super Nintendo pad is, not because I would denigrate the Game Boy’s built-in controls, I would never utter such heresy.
THowever, honesty suggests that I admit its ergonomics at the video game level, because clearing the levels in some platformers is truly hard without the comfort of a controller in your hands, and the more the years go by, the more I realize it.
Insomma, the Super Game Boy is the adapter par excellence if you aspire to restore luster and new life to the games of your handheld console by the Big N, and why not, take the Super Nintendo out of the closet and put it back in action; isn’t it almost a mortal sin to keep it in there gathering dust, folks?
